The first of a seven-part radio drama series, in which actors from Crediton and the German town of Fulda reimagine the experiences of people in each town during World War One. Created by Crediton writer MARY STEPHENSON and first broadcast in 2018.
In 2013 Rod Brookes from Crediton and Anthony Richards of The Common Players theatre company came up with the idea for a play based on the experiences of real people living on the home front during WW1 in both Crediton and Fulda in Germany. They worked with Crediton writer Mary Stephenson whose research, supported by local historians, took her to Fulda before coming up with the material that formed the basis of a stage play and a radio version. Directed by Anthony Richards, a team of professional actors from Crediton and Fulda worked together on the stage play which was performed in Crediton and Fulda during October 2018.
At the same time Rod Brookes produced this radio version, written and edited by Mary Stephenson and broadcast on hospital radios in Exeter and Plymouth during November 2018. The radio cast is made up of professional and good amateur actors mainly from Crediton and Exeter. The German parts are played by German actors now living locally.
